Clicking the king, then clicking a rook causes castling???

When you click the king, click anywhere and then click your rook

turn what off? you're sending the command to castle with that rook. what do you want to turn off?

its natural to have to deselect the king if, after having selected him, you change your mind and decide not to move him. I'm not sure what you want the developers to do. make it so you can turn off the option to castle? seems like that would be just as annoying to have that option turned off if, in a fast paced game, you want to castle.

many of us have lost games because we clicked the wrong thing. its not that big of a deal.

There are two other ways to castle. This one in particular just seems like a useless alternative that causes more trouble than it's worth. +1 for having the option to turn it off.
What are the two other ways? As far as I know there is only dragging and clicking.

To the OP: I don't see how this is an issue with the design. There are very few instances in which this problem will occur, even if you are playing a 0+1 game, are too lazy to double-click or cancel your king, and are capable of castling with the rook you want to move.

@Dionysus

1. Click the king, then click the appropriate square to castle
2. Drag the king to the appropriate square
3. Click the king, then click one of your rooks to castle

I could do without option three, it just seems excessive.

it "makes sense" because you're selecting the pieces you intend to move. you choose to move the king and the rook, you select the king and the rook.

its plenty natural to deselect once you have selected and then changed your mind. that's why there are green dots on the empty squares where you have a legal move and green triangles in the corners of occupied squares.

this is reminiscent of the thread where the guy wanted the computer to ask "are you sure?" before he made a blunder. just learn the interface and be done with it.

its very annoying to see the developers deluged with nonsense complaints and requests for non-features.
I agree with OP that this is unintuitive, as there have been cases where I have played 0-0-0, by click-dragging the K to a1, then realised Rd1 is stronger but still castled by accident. This does seem to be unique to lichess, but we wouldn't have the opportunity to change our minds OTB due to touch-move anyway so I'm not convinced it's worth 'fixing'.
