Draw offer/losing on time

Hi all,

I just played a game, and by opponent appeared having connections issues as he only played one move.

So naturally, I offered a draw, however he didn't come on time to accept it and consequentially he lost on time. Also, I couldnt afford giving extra time as it was doubtful if you would make it back.

So, my suggestion if the opponent is losing on time and the draw offer is not declined, then player who had offered the draw should have the option to force the draw to hold.

What do you think?

As a reference:
I was under the impression one could force a draw if the opponent was to leave the game. Isn't that the case any more?
Do you mean not sure?
If he is not logged into his lichess account, he disconnects and eventually "leaves." If he leaves his phone/computer while he is still logged in to his account, then the green light next to his username will stay on and he will time out. You can tell if they're there or not by the color of the light - green or gray.

I think.
Well, it could've been the case that your opponent didn't have poor internet that ceased his connection to lichess, but rather that he was disturbed by someone or something. If he just left the tab of the game open to attend to something else it wouldn't trigger the "Your opponent has left the game" - option.
In that case it could indeed be a viable option to force the draw nevertheless, as it gets rather annoying to keep watching the game just in case he does, in fact, make a move. The problem is the time window, as some people might force the draw when you're just thinking hard on a critical move. It's hard to determine I reckon.
@Jacob531 Correct, I meant not sure.

The strange thing was, the color of the light was gray throughout the game (I was checking the status periodically since I was on a different tab and waiting him to play his move). However, I did not get the option to claim a draw.

Sometimes when my opponents is grey, I get the option.

My best guess is, that maybe he was connecting and disconnecting periodically and so the system did not think he was away long enough to trigger the claim a draw option.
@rocknrollsuicide Maybe my suggestion was not clear in my first post. I was thinking of having the draw option after he has run out of time. So, if you have offered a draw and your oppenent hasnt declined the draw, then you (who has offered the draw) can claim the draw retrospectively.

So for instance, when the game is finished maybe the system can ask you do you want a draw and you have like a half a minute to answer. If you dont answer automatically the system registers it as a win.

This can also potentially be useful in a situation when you offer a draw and your opponent runs out of time before he manages to accept the draw.
Ahhh, indeed I did misunderstand you. In your original post, you said "So, my suggestion if the opponent is losing on time." I interpreted is as being in the process of losing on time, not afterwards. Apologies.
#7 Makes sense to me (or auto-claim a draw on timeout if the opponent offered a draw).
