How to Transform 0/9 into World #14

This is extremely motivating. I played a national tournament US OPEN and got 4.5/9 despite completely winning 7/9 games almost. After this I learnt and worked hard and now I got my rating points back. This is really helpful! Thank you GM @NoelStuder
I think everyone can relate to this. A couple years ago I had just hit my peak rating, just over 1400 USCF, after a great tournament in my hometown. I had about a month until I was going to play one of the big CCA tournaments, and I really wanted to play up in the 1600+ section, but to do that I had to reach at least 1500 live. I drove six hours total a couple Saturdays later to play in a tournament to try to reach that rating, and ended up going 0/4 mostly against a bunch of kids who were probably 15-20 years younger than me. Then the following weekend, one week before the tournament, I played in another tournament against mostly the same players I had achieved my peak against, and went 0/3. Instead of going up another 100 points, I dropped over 100 points from going 0/7 those two weekends. The big tournament actually went pretty well for me and I gained some of that back, but it ended up taking me until late last year to even break 1450, let alone 1500. And once I did, I jumped straight up to almost 1650 where I am now at the following tournament! Progress is absolutely not linear, single results are not indicative of the whole, and your rating doesn't track things perfectly. Learn as much as you can from every game and your skills will build over time. Thanks @NoelStuder for another great post, love your work!
Thanks for the advice! After getting 0/9 in a tournament, now I know how to become #14 in the world. Will be sure to apply.
Chess is for patient people. First year you'll have smaller rating, on next years higher..
