I don't think it is common. A king in the center of the board with a pawn in front and a N blocking the two other squares to ensure mate with the Rook...
Not sure if I ever saw this before, not to mention that this is not even an endgame.
Perhaps it is not the most difficult as it is mate in 1 but certainly quite a unusual one!
Seemed pretty common to me (the real problem being that Black fell into it all rather drastically).
