Is lichess becoming the wikipedia of chess playing websites?

I can't recall another chess website that required no payment for all of the features on its website. The owner could by all means, sell the website for quite a bit. He doesn't for reasons stated here:

The net worth of the website varies, of course, but eventually, I suspect, its traffic will surge pass chess.com, (assuming the website continues to innovate and add features).

The current alexa traffic rankings are stated here:

So, when will it become the most popular chess website?
It won't be easy surpassing Chess.com, with all the revenue that collect from memberships that they can use on advertising and high level tournaments.

I actually like that lichess isn't quite as popular, though. I prefer having a smaller community, where I see tons of players I recognize whenever I play a tournament.
Telling friends about good sites through social media is worth more than advertising
I'm rather new here and very impressed with lichess.
The site seems very quick and 'light', probably because of no advertisment and fancy features.
Like most things in life, simplicity is best.
#3 couldn't agree more with you actually I came here because a friend recommended me this website. If I saw and advertishment instead i would have ignored it.
I am kinda new in playin chess but I am %100 about this is the best chess website ever I can see in my life.
Depends. Wikipedia used to be better. It is too PC nowadays…
