Do you guys think En passant is kinda unfair?

Not having En passant would make the game of Chess really unfair since it would allow the "lazy" pawns to be backwards and allow them to have the change to promote basically doing nothing during the game except for the endgame. That would be totally unfair with the "brave" pawns that maybe risked themselves during the game standing closer to the opponents side of the board!
Pawn moves x2-x4, y7-y5 made the game quicker and more interesting, but undermined the strength of pawns advanced to 5th and, respectively, 4th rank. So the e.p. rule gave back this strength to them, or it would feel unfair to pass or be passed like that.

It has to be done on the very next move because it could only r e a l l y be done d u r i n g the move. But during the move of our opponent, we do not know yet if the pawn will be pushed ahead one or two steps. We, as pushers, could always declare 'this is going to be a two step advance!' as a promise, and thus enable a live en passant capture during our move. But then, we cannot expect the movers to hold the pawn in mid air over or pause half way on square one until the would be takers make up their minds to take it or not.

So, as would be takers we just wait, and if it turns out to be a two step advance we can think forever- but will have to claim that we really took it in passing by capturing into the void and taking en passant on this our move. If we make a move on the other side of the board instead, we already contradict for good any later claim of ours that we r e a l l y took it in passing by taking e.p.- we didn't, we just did something completely different and really let it pass.
How come only knights get to jump over pieces? How unfair!

WOW 21 Dislikes thats a record for me! *cries softly*
I love En passant, but it is stressful when rookie players don't know about it and think you cheated... ugh... This used to happen when I was a much lower player. That was not fun to try to explain during a chess game.
En passant is to chess is like penalty in football! (You love them to happen irrespective of result!)
